On May 14, 2025, Rep. Gonzales expressed gratitude towards several agricultural organizations for their support of the STOP Screwworms Act. In another tweet on the same day, he highlighted concerns about the resurgence of the New World screwworm and its potential impact on livestock industries. Rep. Gonzales emphasized the urgency to eradicate this pest by stating: “The New World screwworm is making a comeback & our livestock industry is in real danger.” He also mentioned collaborating with Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz to intensify eradication efforts.
