Rep. Tony Gonzales, U.S. Representative for Texas’s 23rd congressional district, addressed constituents on social media in a series of posts between August 11 and August 12, 2025, focusing on education, drug policy, and border security.
On August 11, Gonzales acknowledged the beginning of the academic year by expressing gratitude to educators and staff: “Back to school is in full swing. Thank you to all the teachers, faculty, and support staff who work hard to help our kids succeed. Have a great school year, #TX23. https://t.co/8srnK4bDER”.
Later that day, he turned attention to public health concerns regarding fentanyl: “Fentanyl is the number one cause of death for young Americans. The passage of the #OBBB builds upon this administration’s already successful efforts to stop the flow of deadly drugs into our communities.”
On August 12, Gonzales criticized previous responses to border issues and highlighted recent changes in leadership: “The left stayed SILENT and did NOTHING about the border crisis for four years—even as Americans’ lives were completely turned upside down. Those days are over. Americans put leaders in charge who value safety and security and we are DELIVERING on our promises. https://t.co/AWpyTQotzm”.
Gonzales has represented Texas’s 23rd district since his initial election victory in 2020 against Gina Ortiz Jones with 50.6% of the vote. He was re-elected in subsequent cycles, defeating John Lira in 2022 with 55.9% of the vote and Santos Limon in 2024 with 62.3%. These electoral outcomes have solidified his position as a key Republican figure in West Texas.
