Rep. Tony Gonzales, a U.S. Congressman representing Texas’s 23rd District since 2021, has recently addressed several pressing issues through his social media posts. On May 6 and 7, 2025, he highlighted concerns ranging from border security to mental health and energy production.

On May 6, Rep. Gonzales expressed frustration over the financial burden placed on border states like Texas due to what he described as the Biden administration’s failure to secure the borders. He stated that these states have been left to “bear the cost of the border crisis ALONE—spending BILLIONS” and called for “reimbursements, accountability, & lasting solutions.” “Four years of failures left border states like Texas to bear the cost of the border crisis ALONE—spending BILLIONS to defend borders the Biden administration REFUSED to secure.”

Later that day, Rep. Gonzales joined his colleagues in a roundtable discussion as part of his role as Co-Chair of the Mental Health Caucus. The focus was on youth mental health, where he appreciated hearing testimonies from witnesses. He reiterated his commitment by advocating for increased funding and research in this area within his district: “I joined my fellow Co-Chairs of the Mental Health Caucus for a roundtable focused on youth mental health.”

On May 7, Rep. Gonzales turned his attention to energy security in West Texas, highlighting oil theft as a significant issue affecting America’s energy-production hub in the Permian Basin. He praised the FBI’s efforts through its Permian Basin Oil Theft Task Force and expressed eagerness to collaborate with FBI Director Kash on this matter: “The Permian Basin is America’s energy-production powerhouse, which makes West Texas a target for OIL THEFT.”
