Today, Congressman Tony Gonzales advanced the Fiscal Year 2026 Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development package through the House Appropriations Committee. As a member of the THUD Subcommittee, Gonzales played a key role in crafting provisions to support Texas’ transportation and housing needs, including housing for homeless veterans and foster youth.

“I’m proud to serve on the Congressional Subcommittee that funds our transportation and housing initiatives across the nation,” said Congressman Tony Gonzales. “I worked extremely hard to ensure that communities in my district have access to strong infrastructure funding in this legislation—from the urban centers of San Antonio and El Paso to rural communities across South and West Texas.”

Gonzales highlighted efforts to increase funding for air traffic controllers at Texas airports. He emphasized his commitment as the bill progresses: “As this bill progresses to the House floor for a vote, I will keep fighting to make sure these important priorities for South and West Texas are signed into law.”

In June, during a budget hearing with HUD Secretary Scott Turner, Gonzales addressed issues facing veterans and foster youth in Texas. The THUD package includes initiatives such as “The First Lady Melania Trump Youth Foster to Independence Initiative,” which was drafted by Gonzales.

Gonzales also supported maintaining last year’s funding levels for Community Development Block Grants. These grants aid housing rehabilitation, infrastructure improvements, and economic development. He represents a district spanning 823 miles from Eagle Pass to El Paso.

Community project funding initiatives advanced by Gonzales include:

– UTSA Veterans Center (Bexar County): $7.5 million
– Hudspeth County Community Center: $2 million
– San Elizario Community Center (El Paso County): $2 million
– UTEP UAS Drone Workforce Development Center (El Paso County): $2 million
– Pecos Housing Project (Reeves County): $2 million

Key funding provisions include over $23 billion for the FAA—an increase of over $2 billion from FY25 levels—to fund air traffic control operations and hire new controllers.
