Rep. Tony Gonzales advances legislation supporting Texas energy industry

Congressman Tony Gonzales has advanced legislation through the House Appropriations Committee, aiming to reduce energy costs and enhance reliable energy resources. West Texas is identified as a potential source for critical minerals, leading to significant investments in mining production technologies for extraction.

“Over the past four years, high energy costs and reliance on foreign oil and critical materials have put our nation on the wrong track. Through my seat on the House Appropriations Committee, I worked alongside conservative, principled lawmakers to cut funding for President Biden’s rush-to-green energy agenda and support initiatives that support America’s energy industry, all while saving the taxpayers billions of dollars. Bottom line, the Energy and Water and Interior policy packages passed out of the House Appropriations Committee put Texas and America first,” said Congressman Tony Gonzales.

Key provisions include increased funding for oil and gas development in Texas, prohibiting certain environmental fees and federal funding activities related to environmental justice. The legislation also supports national security by investing in mining technologies to reduce foreign reliance on critical minerals. It maintains cybersecurity efforts for a secure electric grid and recognizes defense programs as nuclear deterrents against adversaries like China and Russia.

The Department of Energy (DOE) is encouraged to work with other agencies to prioritize mine project approvals while supporting high-performance computing, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence efforts.
