About 19 percent of the 669 degrees and certificates handed out by Sul Ross State University in 2017-18 were to students in education programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The agency's National Center for Education Statistics shows the public institution in Alpine conferred 127 master's degrees in education programs.

But the single most popular program was for a bachelor's degree in "other" multi-/interdisciplinary studies. Data shows the school gave out 97 bachelor's degrees in "other" multi-/interdisciplinary studies, followed by 46 master's degrees in general educational leadership and administration and 46 bachelor's degrees in criminal justice/safety studies.

The university enrolled 2,739 students for 2017-18, including 2,137 in undergraduate programs and 602 in graduate programs.
