The Prairie View A&M football team takes a 54-21 win over Southland Conference member Lamar on Saturday in the Provost Umphrey Stadium.
Directed by quarterback Trazon Connley PVAMU (4-3, 3-1), rolled out a to a season high of 580 offensive yards. Connley was 15-for-21 for 179 yards and two touchdowns. Chris Herron caught six paces for 94 yards, while Collier Ricks had two catches for 23 yards and one score.
The Panthers carried the ball 44 times for 404 yards, owning six, rushing touchdowns. Sophomore Jaden Stewart led PV's ground attack with a season best of 141 rushing yards on nine attempts and one touchdown. Stewart averaged 15.7 yards per game. Ahmad Antoine added seven carries for 101 yards and a touchdown, while freshman Connor Wisham had four carries for 33 yards and a score.
Sophomore Jessie Owens led the Panthers defense with a season best 12 tackles, while junior Warren Shankle added 11 stops.
The Panthers opened the first quarter taking a 13-7 lead. After PVAMU tacked on two more scores, closing out the first half with a 34-21 lead. Prairie View A&M secured the win not looking back, while keeping the Cardinals off the scoreboard in the second half.
The Panthers will return to action Saturday, Oct. 29 for a homecoming contest versus Bethune Cookman. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. in Panther Stadium on Blackshear Field.
