After yesterday's spring opener was washed out due to rain, UT Permian Basin Men's Tennis got off to a fast start against No. 13 Trinity in San Antonio on Sunday.  The Falcons looked impressive in a 6-3 win over one of the best Division III programs.  The win was the first for new Head Coach Alex Hunt in his Falcon debut.

The Falcons had a strong showing in doubles, taking all three matches.  Top pairing, Jonas Krahofer and Takumi Katsuda cruised to a 8-3 win.  Patryk Kosinski and Grzegorz Rudnicki took the No. 2 pairing 8-5, while Vitaliy Horovoy and Paul Schwieger made quick work in an 8-2 win for the doubles sweep.

Singles action was much more closely contested, with three matches needing a third set.  Rudnicki and Kosinski each won in straight sets to put the Falcons up 5-1.  Horovoy's three-set win in a tiebreaker clinched the final point in the win.  Schwieger and Krahofer each battled to a third set but couldn't pull it out in the end.

"Our men just got a huge 6-3 win over one of the current, and historically, best teams in NCAA D3 tennis,"  said Hunt. "Trinity is the number 13 team in the country, but our guys didn't let that effect them in how they approached this match. We completely dominated doubles, winning all three matches. The fight our men showed today in securing this win is very promising for what our future holds. We just have to maintain this intensity, focus, and passion every single practice and match until May. Very exciting start to the year."

The Falcons hit the road next weekend to face Collin College and Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday.  Download the UTPB Athletics App to follow the team all season long.
