Jones' 27 Points, Late Free Throws Seal Crucial LSC Win

Needing a win to keep pace in the Lone Star Conference race, DaJuan Jones carried UT Permian Basin Men's Basketball to victory over Eastern New Mexico on Saturday.  The senior scored a season-high 27 points while dishing out seven assists in the 74-72 win.

The Falcons led through much of the second half but a late 8-0 run by the Greyhounds tied the score at 72.  With the shot clock turned off, Jones patiently burned the clock before driving to the hoop and drawing a foul with just seconds remaining.  The senior calmly stepped the the charity stripe and knocked down a pair, to finish the night 10-for-10 from the free throw line, and sealed the two-point win.

Keyon Craddock had it going early from the field.  Craddock hit a pair of threes before a layup for an 8-0 personal run.  The junior later made all three free throws after a foul on a three-point shot.  Jones followed him with a three and stretched the lead to nine in the first half.

The Falcons came out in the second half hot, and another three by Craddock and a layup by Nathaniel Powell pushed the lead to 16.  From there the visitors chipped away at the lead, but the Jones free throws kept the Falcons on top for the win.

Craddock finished the afternoon with 18 points.  The Falcons had it going from three-point range, finishing 11-for-22.

Next up for the Falcons is a four-game road swing beginning Thursday at West Texas A&M.  Download the UTPB Athletics App to follow the team all season long.
