Prairie View A&M Drops a 79-65 Contest to Southern
The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team got a 20-point showing from the bench, but fell 79-65 to the Southern Jaguars on the road Saturday.
The Panthers (9-16, 5-7) had three players score in double figures, led by Will Douglas, who recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists. Jeremiah Gambrell added 12 points off of the bench and Yahuza Rasas chipped in as well with 12 points, six rebounds and two blocks.
The Prairie View A&M offense was very productive from three point land, making 12 threes on 31 attempts. Gambrell was the most prolific shooter for the Panthers, draining four treys in the contest.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 26-24 advantage, Prairie View A&M went on a 9-0 run with 4:22 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Gambrell, to increase its lead to 35-24. The Panthers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 38-31 advantage. Prairie View A&M relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down eight shots to account for 24 of its 38 points.
Southern proceeded to take a 67-56 lead before Prairie View A&M went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Tekorian Smith's three, to shrink the deficit to 67-63 with 3:07 to go in the contest. Southern responded and outscored the Panthers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 79-65. Prairie View A&M shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting four shots from deep to score 12 of its 27 points.
