Big games from Douglas, Bell, and Rasas not enough in Prairie View A&M's loss to Jackson State

Will Douglas, Braden Bell, and Yahuza Rasas combined to score 45 of Prairie View A&M's 57 total points, but the Panthers fell to the Jackson State Tigers 61-57 on the road Monday.

Douglas led the Panthers (12-18, 8-9) with 20 points and six rebounds. Bell added 14 points, three steals, and two blocks and Rasas helped out a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Prairie View A&M offense was very productive from downtown, pouring in 10 threes on 30 attempts. Bell was the most prolific shooter for the Panthers, draining four treys in the contest.

The Prairie View A&M defense was a problem in Monday's game, forcing 23 Jackson State turnovers while committing 10. Those takeaways turned into 21 points on the other end of the floor. Rasas' four steals led the way individually for the Panthers.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 5-4 advantage, Prairie View A&M went on a 7-0 run with 14:42 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Tekorian Smith, to increase its lead to 12-4. The Panthers then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 24-23.

Jackson State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 43-40 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Douglas' three, to seize a 46-43 lead with 8:38 to go in the contest. Jackson State re-asserted control, outscoring the Panthers 18-11 the rest of the way to hand Prairie View A&M the 61-57 loss. Prairie View A&M shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting seven shots from deep to score 21 of its 34 points.
