Will Douglas secured a double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds to help the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team take down the Texas Southern Tigers 78-74 at home Saturday.
The Panthers (13-18, 9-9) had four players score in double figures, led by Douglas, who put together a double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Tekorian Smith added 19 points and four assists and Braden Bell helped out with 14 points.
The Prairie View A&M offense was impressive from downtown, knocking down eight threes on 17 attempts. Smith hit three treys for the Panthers in the contest.
How It Happened
After falling behind 2-0, Prairie View A&M went on a 7-0 run with 19:18 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Bell, to take a 7-2 lead. The Panthers then added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 40-34 advantage. Prairie View A&M got out and ran in the period, scoring eight points on the break.
The Tigers proceeded to tie things up at 72-72 before Prairie View A&M went on a 5-0 run to seize a 77-72 lead with eight seconds to go in the contest. The Tigers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Panthers still held on for the 78-74 win.
