Falcons Battle ‘Toppers to the End

UT Permian Basin take #19 St. Edward's University deep into extra innings Saturday afternoon.

In game one, UTPB and STEU went blow for blow in the early part of the game. Heading into the fifth inning, the Hilltoppers were up 8-3. Although UTPB took cuts in the lead, they could never catch up and fell in game 14-5

Austin Parks struck out three batters on his way to his first loss of the season. Cole Tague collected three strikeouts as well in three innings pitched.

UTPB came out in game two, firing as they jumped on the Hilltoppers for a 5 runs in the first three innings. St. Edward's tied the game up in the next two inning heading into the final scheduled inning of the day.

SEU took the lead in the top of the seventh, but the Falcons rallied back and tied the game again off a Stephen MacKenzie RBI double. After tying the game, the Falcons had bases loaded with two outs, but couldn't bring in the winning run.

Andrew Troppman came in to pitch in the seventh inning and held St. Edwards at bay, striking out eight batters in six innings. In the 12th inning SEU managed to get one run in, and it was enough to hold on to take game two of the day.

Taylor McDaniel led all Falcon hitters with two hits and three RBIs. Carson Johnson also had two hits and two runs on the day. Mason Hamlin, Jay DeSoto, and MacKenzie each had a double in the second game.

Sunday the Falcons will wrap up the series against St. Edwards with one, nine inning game at Roden Field scheduled to start at noon.
