All Prairie View A&M starters reach base in 13-1 win over UAPB

-Prairie View A&M received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Panthers put 13 runs on the board and beat the UAPB Golden Lions 13-1 Friday.

Junior Michael Dews (2-0) started on the mound and picked up the win for Prairie View A&M (6-16, ). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up one run on four hits, allowing no walks and striking out two.

Junior Derrek Lathon led the way offensively for the Panthers, going 1-for-2 in the ballgame with a home run, two walks and an RBI. Sophomore Blake Redman put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Freshman Michael Burroughs also contributed, going 2-for-3 for Prairie View A&M with two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Burroughs' run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Prairie View A&M.

The Golden Lions failed to push any runs across before the Panthers built on their lead in the third inning. The Prairie View A&M offense exploded for six runs, highlighted by a one-run single off the bat of senior Zachary Trevino, which brought the Panthers lead to 8-0.

Prairie View A&M kept UAPB scoreless before building their lead to 11-0 the following inning. The Panthers added three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-RBI double from Redman.

The Golden Lions fought back, closing the gap to 11-1 until Prairie View A&M added some insurance in the sixth. The Panthers scored twice on Lathon's two-run homer, bringing the Prairie View A&M advantage to 13-1. The score remained 13-1 for the rest of the game, as the Panthers coasted to the win.
