2021-22 School Year: What was most represented ethnicity in Culberson County County schools?

Of the many ethnicities represented in Culberson County County schools, Hispanic was the most prevalent ethnicity among Culberson County County students in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of the 360 students attending Culberson County County schools, 84.2% were Hispanic. White students were the second largest ethnicity, making up 11.4% of Culberson County County students.

In the previous school year, Hispanic students still were the most common group in Culberson County County, representing 85% of the student body.

Van Horn School had the most diverse student body in Culberson County County, including white, American Indian, Black, Asian, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, and Multi-racial.

In the 2021-22 school year, the total number of students enrolled in public schools in the county dropped 7.0% when compared to the previous year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

“The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students…dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools…gun violence, and mental health issues,” claimed the Texas Almanac.
