During the series finale Sunday afternoon, the Sul Ross State baseball team let an early two-run lead slip away as the University of Texas at Dallas Comets came out victorious, 7-2, at the UTD Baseball Field.

The Comets took two of three games in the series.

In the top of the first, Orlando Moreno hit a one-out double to left. Carsen Thor reached on an error by the shortstop which allowed Moreno to score.

Tye Lindsey then singled to right and Matthew Wheeler reached on a fielder’s choice to load up the bases.

Alvaro Hernandez drew a walk to drive in a run after a 10-pitch at bat.

UT-Dallas tied up the game in the bottom of the second with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to center.

The Comets took a 3-2 lead in the fourth as a run scored on a double play ground out to short. UT-Dallas added two more runs on three hits in the fifth.

Sul Ross had six hits to the nine tallied by the Comets.

Lindsey finished 2 for 4 with two singles while Jared Roiz went 1 for 5 with a single.

Lindsey is riding a 10-game hitting streak that began on March 4 at LeTourneau.

Moreno and Wheeler each went 1 for 4. Hernandez was walked twice to go 1 for 2.

Dawson Beard tossed three innings allowing four hits and three earned runs. Connor Archer relieved the next two innings as he allowed two earned runs on three hits.

Ian Craigie and Brad Ansley pitched one inning apiece. The duo did not allow a single hit while Craigie fanned one batter.

Cade Watson allowed two earned runs on two hits in 2/3 of an inning. Aidan Mow faced one batter in 1/3 of an inning.
