Rep. Tony Gonzales, U.S. Congressman for Texas’s 23rd district, posted a series of updates on his official Twitter account addressing topics ranging from Texas history to border biosecurity and Middle East diplomacy.

On October 2, 2025, Gonzales commemorated the anniversary of a pivotal event in Texas history. He wrote, “190 years ago on this day, the Mexican army was met with a Texas-sized force when they tried to seize the town cannon from Gonzales, Texas. ‘Come and Take It’ Word to the wise, don’t mess with Texas. “

Later that day, he highlighted an emerging threat near the U.S.-Mexico border involving livestock and public health: “NEW: The deadly screwworm is 70 miles away from our border & can infect cattle, wildlife, pets, & even humans. I joined @1200WOAI today to discuss my launching of the New World Screwworm Working Group. More here on our mission: https://t.co/6KvLsm8Zgp” The New World screwworm poses risks not only to animals but also to humans if it crosses into new territories.

On October 3, 2025, Rep. Gonzales addressed international affairs by commenting on developments in the Middle East: “President Trump has taken a major step forward in paving the path toward peace in the Middle East. I pray every innocent victim being held hostage by Hamas is brought home safely.”

Gonzales has represented his district since winning election in 2020 against Gina Ortiz Jones with 50.6% of the vote over her 46.6%. He was re-elected in subsequent cycles—defeating John Lira in 2022 with 55.9% and Santos Limon in 2024 with 62.3%.
