Rep. Tony Gonzales, a U.S. Congressman and 20-year Navy veteran, posted a series of tweets on September 9, 2025, highlighting his ongoing support for Texans visiting Washington D.C., suicide awareness among veterans and servicemembers, and legislative efforts to improve military quality of life.

In his first post at 14:25 UTC, Gonzales wrote: “When I’m away from home, one of the best parts of the job is welcoming Texans to the seat of our nation’s history in Washington, D.C.

Appreciate the National Guard stepping up to keep folks safe in D.C. Keep up the good work. https://t.co/xsW4QBHlqV

Later that day at 15:11 UTC, he addressed mental health issues affecting service members during Suicide Awareness Month: “September is Suicide Awareness Month. I’ve worked across the board to support our veterans & servicemembers who are dealing with battles that aren’t always visible. As a 20 year Navy veteran, this is personal to me.

At 20:33 UTC on September 9, Gonzales reiterated his commitment to military personnel and announced legislative activity in Congress: “#UPDATE : I served 20 years in the Navy, I will ALWAYS go to bat for our men & women in uniform.

The House is working on our yearly defense and military quality of life policy package this week.”

Gonzales represents Texas’s congressional district and has consistently won re-election since first taking office in 2020—defeating Gina Ortiz Jones that year with just over half the vote (50.6% to 46.6%). He subsequently defeated John Lira in 2022 (55.9% to 38.8%) and Santos Limon in 2024 (62.3% to 37.7%).
