The Bridge to Engineering program offers two dual credit options for high school students.
The College of Engineering has launched a dual credit program, Bridge to Engineering, for students in grades 9-12. The Bridge to Engineering program offers two entry level courses to high school students: UNIV 1101-003– Introduction to Engineering and PENG 2101– Fundamentals of Petroleum Engineering.
The Introduction to Engineering course will introduce the methods and tools of engineering through hands-on demonstrations, team working skills, computer and communication skills, and engineering ethics. Students enrolled in the Fundamentals of Petroleum course will learn a basic overview of the petroleum industry covering exploration, leasing, drilling, production, enhanced recovery, transportation and refining.
Dr. George Nnanna, Dean of the College of Engineering, said this is a great chance for high school students to learn more about various disciplines in engineering.
“This is a great opportunity for high school students. These courses offer early exposure to college-level classes in engineering,” Nnanna said. “Students will also earn college credits while in high school, interact with university professors and engineering students, and take part in hands-on learning opportunities.”
The courses are both fully online and may be transferred to UTPB after completion. They will both count as one course credit and cost $100 each to enroll. The deadline to enroll is September 7, 2022.
